David Gordon Green

David Gordon GreenDavid Gordon Green has rapidly established himself as one of a handful of visionary filmmakers for the new century.

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1975, Green completed film studies at the North Carolina School of the Arts. While there, he created a series of impressive short films including Roughhouse (1995), Pleasant Grove (1996), Artificial Insemination (1996), A Biography of Barrels (1997), and Physical Pinball (1998). Each were noted for their command of cinematic grammar as well as Green's unique and highly personal observations of the American South.

In 2000, he released his first feature film, George Washington. Its success put the young filmmaker on the international map. His position was further solidified with his next two films, All the Real Girls (2003) and Undertow (2004).

Known primarily for his coming of age tales, Green's films are noted for strong visuals and a subtle, almost musical cutting rhythm. Dramatically, Green is a proponent of the Southern Gothic tradition pioneered by such writers as William Faulkner, while his style is frequently compared to that of writer/director Terence Malick. This latter distinction led to the legendary Malick's executive producing Green's Undertow.

Green has won numerous awards for his work. George Washington received the New York Film Critics prize for Best First Film, and The Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival; it was also named one of the top films of 2000 by Roger Ebert, The New York Times, Time Maqazine and many others.

David Gordon Green is currently completing Snow Angels and is in pre-production for Goat.
